Implementing e-Learning for Knowledge Dissemination in a Geographically Dispersed Organization
My first scientific article, “Implementing e-Learning for Knowledge Dissemination in a Geographically Dispersed Organization”, co-authored with Prof. Arnaldo Santos, has been published in the special issue ‘Smart Learning Ecosystems: Facts and Future Directions’ of the International Journal on Interaction Design and Architecture(s) (IxD&A).
This article is the result of research carried out as part of my Master’s thesis and presented at SLERD 2025.
The study addresses a common challenge faced by geographically dispersed organisations: the rapid and consistent dissemination of knowledge amongst staff spread across multiple geographical locations and working different shifts.
Following a Design Science Research approach, an artefact – a self-learning tool on the subject of personal data protection – was designed, implemented and evaluated, and made available via an LMS platform. The implementation of the artefact involved more than 200 participants, enabling an assessment of pedagogical aspects, trainees’ levels of engagement and the suitability of the approach for disseminating knowledge within an organisational context.
As a result of the research, a framework was proposed for the development of self-directed microlearning content, based on the design, implementation and evaluation of the artefact and the systematisation of the pedagogical, organisational and technological principles that emerged from the study.
